A D+ Blog…plus Happy 90210 Day?

September 3rd, 2010 by Big Ken, Colleen and Producer Kurt

Fr0m Kurt -

A D+ Blog -

In tribute to Drake’s new advertising campaign…this is D+ Blog, ha ha!

Drake Ad Campaign

I like the D+ campaign…I know many people don’t…but I think people are taking it way too literally…or maybe their not…I had many friends from college that would have jumped at the chance to raise their grade to a D+, ha ha!

I can’t believe the amount of attention the “D+” is getting. I’m proud of my alma mater for trying a new approach…I hope they stick with it.

A Snapshot of Home Life -

Thanks to Molly the Cat for never making anything easy!

Happy Beverly Hills 90210 Day!

I had no idea that it was today…but happy 90210 day! To be honest, I’ve never seen more than 3 episodes…and the only episodes I have seen have been the reruns they show on Soap Network…because Jennifer used to be a huge fan. I just never got into it as a teenager…but the more and more I see reruns, the more I wish I had been…and I still might get into it.

I did find a list of the “Most Ridiculous Things from 90210

1 - Andrea was almost 30

2 - The Peach Pit became a night club.

3 - Steve’s Hair

4 - Scott accidentally shot himself

5 - Donna lost her virginity in white lace

6 - Donna had a stalker

7 - Dylan’s hair

8 - David became a rapper (in real life too)

9 - Maroon 5 played the Peach Pit

10 - Donna Martin graduated…because of a chant?

Iowa Hawkeye Preview

Congrats to the Clones for their victory last night…now onto Saturday and the mighty mighty Hawkeyes.

Prediction for this year - undefeated. Yes, I’m all in (that’s what she said).

Did you expect a longer preview? Okay…Ricky Stanzi will be the next Chuck Long…Adrian Clayborn will be the Defensive Player of the Year in college football…Marvin McNutt will have 11 TDs…Adam Robinson & Jewel Hampton will have a combined 2100 yards rushing. Tyler Sash will be first team All-American…Riley Rieff will be runner-up for lineman of the year…oh, and the Hawkeyes will be AWESOME.

Ricky Stanzi Ricky Stanzi #12 of the Iowa Hawkeyes celebrates a 21-10 victory over the Penn State Nittnay Lions with Travis Meade #61 on September 26, 2009 at Beaver Stadium in State College, Pennsylvania.

No homerism here, ha ha! Go HAWKS!

We didn’t get our season tickets this year…partly because of Dexter…but also, seriously, I don’t know if I’m getting old…but that drive to Iowa City at 4am is a killer. I need some rest…I will miss Kinnick very much this year…but I will also treasure my sleep.

Have a Great Labor Day -

Have a great Labor Day weekend…work little, play much. My grandpa, his wife, and my mom are coming in this weekend, which should be a lot of fun…and also, Dexter will get to enjoy watching his first Hawkeye game and victory.

Sleep might not be plentiful this weekend though…Dexter has definitely gotten a little bit of that colic. The poor little guy…when he starts crying, he’s just so inconsolable. We feel so bad for him. We just do what we can to help him feel better…we have the peppermint…the tummy drops…the tummy rubs…the burping…we’re trying everything. Hang in there Dexter, it’ll pass buddy!

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!

Two of My Favorite Things…and The Worst Movies of 2010…and Peter Cetera?

September 1st, 2010 by Big Ken, Colleen and Producer Kurt

From Kurt…

Two of My Favorite Things -

(I’d like to include a picture of a Cubs World Series trophy…but that is still only a myth)

Wow…What a Night

Last night, Jennifer and I had our first experience with a baby suffering from gas…holy cow…poor little guy. For over an hour, he was just inconsolable. We felt so bad for him…we tried everything…gave him tummy drops…rubbed his belly in a clockwise motion…and even pumped his legs up and down…nothing. He finally calmed down and fell asleep in my arms…so I just held him all night…he had a rough night. If you see Jennifer and I today…please excuse us for our tiredness.

The Worst Movies of 2010 -

The list came out of the “Worst Movies of 2010 (so far)” yesterday…it is as follows

10 - The Backup Plan - Jennifer Lopez in a romantic comedy? I can’t believe that it didn’t succeed.

9 - Bounty Hunter - What a romantic comedy starring Jennifer Aniston didn’t work out either? Shocker!

8 - Clash of the Titans - I thought this was actually pretty good. It’s not a great film, but it doesn’t deserve to be on this list.

7 - Cop Out - Yes, this movie is terrible. Maybe it got better after the 6 minute mark…but Jennifer and I will never know….that’s as long as we lasted. Seriously…terrible.

6 - The Great Directors - I have no idea what this movie was…someone said it was about Hugh Hefner or something.

5 - Grown Ups - Yes, I lied to Rob Schneider when I told him I saw this movie…I hadn’t. I will rent it though when it becomes available. It can’t be that bad…it has Kevin James and Adam Sandler … Oh wait, I forgot about how bad “I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry” was. Wow…that was a rough movie.

4 - The Last Airbender - This is an unfair selection…had it not been directed M. Night Shama-lama-ding-dong…it would not be on the list.

3 - The Last Song - Miley Cyrus in a romantic drama with singing…based on a Nicholas Sparks novel? No man saw this movie, right?

2 - Sex & the City 2 - Colleen is always there to remind me on how terrible the sequel was…and she wasn’t a fan of the first one either.

1 - Furry Vengeance - Poor Brendon Fraser…what happened? You were on a roll with The Mummy series…but now you’re wrestling with animals. Based on the previews though, I would give it more of a chance than I would than with “Cop Out”.

 Furry Vengeance

ITunes Day -

This is one of the most random Itunes Day lists ever…I’m all over the map on this one…I blame the digital music channels on TV. Jennifer and Dexter like the “Soft Rock” one…you’ll see where that comes into play.

Jay Sean - 2012 - I still don’t know the difference between him and Drake…but that’s cool…this song is great.

Nelly - Just a Dream - It’s about time Nelly returned!

Katy Perry - ET - I should just buy the whole album, it’s AWESOME.

Jack Johnson - You and Your Heart - I liked this song instantly…but then really, really liked it when ESPN used it for the Little League World Series commercials.

Lil Wayne - Right Above It - Amazing how he can still release music while behind bars.

Peter Cetera - Glory of Love…and Restless Heart - Yep, here’s where the Soft Rock Channel came into play.

Mumford & Sons - Little Lion Man … and their entire album - I love their frantic folk music style.

OAR - Rain or Shine - This is a 4 disc live album recorded in Chicago…I love OAR. I will end up completing the whole album, but I had to purchase the acoustic version of “Crazy Game of Poker”, plus live versions of “This Town”, “War Song”, and “What is Mine”…AWESOME.

Movies Out Today -

Two family movies…both of which I kind of want to see…

Marmaduke - The big dog…I don’t know what it was about the previews, but this movie looked genuinely funny. I’ll wait ’til Dexter gets old enough to see it, so in case someone catches me watching it, (and enjoying it), I can push the blame onto the fact that Dexter likes it, ha ha.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Again, the previews for this looked very funny.

The New DWTS Cast

I looked at the list…Bristol Palin, Michael Bolton, Florence Henderson, Kurt Warner, Brandy, The Situation, etc., and to be honest, I’m sort of intrigued. I’ve heard a lot of people talk about how bad the contestants are…but I think it’ll be a good season. So many of them could be considered “villains” (ala Pamela Anderson, Kate Gosselin) that I think it’ll provide for excellent drama. I won’t watch it often, but I’ll tune in every now and then to catch Kurt Warner dance. Who doesn’t want to see Mama Brady succeed?

My prediction…the final 3 will be Brandy, Kurt Warner, and The Situation.

Bowling Starts Again

Yes, another 32 week Bowling season has begun again…it seems like it was just last week that we ended the last season. Side note: Tom Hess, who I’ve mentioned on the Blog of AWESOME before due to his bowling tremendousness (and his wife Sue who is a frequent commenter on the Blog, and a great bowler herself), finished 4th in that Pro Bowling Tour event in Pleasant Hill last week. He beat out so many well-known pros…like Pete Weber Jr….well done Tom.

An Emmys Recap, and The Best Shows on TV (and the Worst)

August 30th, 2010 by Big Ken, Colleen and Producer Kurt

From Kurt…

The Emmys -

So last night, Jennifer, Dexter, and I sat down and watched the Emmys…and here are some comments/observations that were made….

- 3 minutes into pre-show…Betty White.

- Kate Gosselin’s veneers look great…says Donkey from Shrek.

- 1 minute into show…Betty White.

- Randy Jackson is back!

- Sofia Vergara is not all there.

- Betty White…again.

- Oops, missed a category, Dexter pooped.

- Here come the Oprah tributes.

- We haven’t seen Betty White in 12 min…nevermind, there she is.

- LL Cool J is on the Emmys? I owe someone $10.

- Why can’t actors read lines?

- Reading Tweets is boring.

- Booo…Kim Kardashian.

- Mariska Hargitay…Law & Order SVU R Hot.

- It’s just Jimmy Fallon singing all hte time.

- Couldn’t they just have hired Boyz II Men?

- I need a beer.

- Don’t let Susan Sarandon win, I can’t stand her talking.

- Turn up the volume on Al Pacino’s mic please.

- Thanks for the reminder on how much the Lost finale sucked

- Did Tom Selleck dye his hair, his mustache, and his eyebrows?

Best Shows on TV -

Here’s a list of what I (and Jennifer) think are the best shows on TV…or at least, the ones that we seem to watch the most (Most of these were not nominated for Emmys…shockingly).

10 - The Simpsons - Still one of the best shows on TV. I don’t catch it as much as I used to, but when I do, it’s still brilliant.

9 - Modern Family - We don’t catch this show much either, but that episode where Edward Norton showed up as the bassist of “Spandau Ballet” was so funny that it still stays on the list.

8 - The Office - A year ago…this would have been #2 on the list…but last season was terrible. Hopefully, they’ll salute Steve Carrell the right way during his final season by returning to being funny. This past season was too Jim/Pam focused….and get Daryl back into the warehouse!

7 - Outsourced - It’s not even on TV yet…but I love this show….just based on the preview alone. “We’re like the bad news bears? You don’t know the Bad News Bears?” “I can only assume that they are bears, and bears are very bad news. Who wants bears in their village?” Okay, I butchered that whole thing…just watch the video.

6 - Property Virgins - Somehow, I’ve become an HGTV addict. Sandra Rinomato has to deal with some of the dumbest house buyers…oh, they always take the house just outside of their price range…but don’t we all?

5 - Holmes on Homes - Another HGTV show…if we get some remodeling done, I hope it goes bad, just so Holmes can come and save the day (that’s not true though, I don’t want to be broke and without a working bathroom for 3 months).

4 - Man V. Food - How did I miss him when he was in town? Did he beat my time eating the Adam Emmanecker sandwich at Jethros?

3 - The Glades - The best new crime drama on TV.

2 - Tosh 2.0 - Hilarious. Daniel Tosh has been one of my favorite comedians for years, and this show showcases him perfectly. Funniest show on TV.

1 - Dexter - The love for this show is well-documented…can’t wait for the next season (and for the umteenth time, no, we didn’t name Dexter after the show…he’s actually named after Dexter’s Laboratory…Jennifer thought the name was very witty, smart, quirky, and cute…we actually started watching “Dexter” because of the name…good thing Jennifer didn’t like the name “Big Brother”)

Worst Shows on TV -

7 - 30 Rock - It’s just not funny. They try to be so hip and cool, and maybe they succeed…but they don’t for me…I spend most of the time just staring at the TV

6 -  Undercover Boss - Snnnorre.

5 - Saturday Night Live - Besides Andy Samberg & the impersonations by Bill Hader, this show is terrible.

4 - Apprentice - The only thing worse than Apprentice is Celebrity Apprentice…nothing ever comes of the winner, they just disappear.

3 - 2 1/2 Men - Usually it’s #1 on the list…but oh no, not this time…there are two worst.

2 - Big Brother - Awful. My friend Eric loves this show…I worry about our friendship now. What do you even win for winning the show? A spot on the next season of DWTS?

1 - America’s Got Talent - If we go by this show, America does not have talent. This show has made American Idol look like the most talented show on TV.

Re-Release of Avatar

They’re re-releasing Avatar in the theaters…who hasn’t seen this yet? Who hasn’t bought it on DVD yet? I think I’m still in the minority here in saying that it wasn’t that great of a movie. Visually, of course, the movie is excellent…but the storyline is terrible…it’s way, way too long…and I found much of it to be sort of boring.

Can’t Buy Me Love -

Well, I’ve now seen another 80s classic. I’m knocking ‘em down one by one. There really was a slow clap in every 80s movie. Outstanding! The girl’s boyfriend played football at Iowa? Outstanding.

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!

The Blog is Back….and Returns With Dexter, and a List!

August 26th, 2010 by Big Ken, Colleen and Producer Kurt

From Kurt…

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

Happy Anniversary to my wonderful wife Jennifer. Yesterday, (according to my arm tattoo) was our 3 year wedding anniversary. We celebrated it by going out with Dexter to our first dinner…El Rodeo (the site of our first official date). Dexter had to understand the power of Nachos Del Rodeo.

I love you very much sweetheart. I love you more and more everyday…thank you for being the best wife in the world…and now the best mother. Thank you for all the pain and discomfort you had to endure to bring little Dexter to us….he’s AWESOME, and I love both of you very much.

(Oh, what did we get each other for our anniversary? We’re putting up a fence. Not the most romantic, but very practical).

The “Mini-Situation”

Dexter already loves “The Jersey Shore”…he’s the new Situation. Look at those blingin’ abs! Fist pumps for everybody!

By the way…Dexter is a farter. Holy cow…he toots all the time. It’s hilarious. Jennifer couldn’t be more happy to have two of us in the house now that walk around farting and burping. Lucky girl!

By the way, a public thank you to everyone for the well wishes, the congratulations, the meals, the everything. Jennifer, Dexter, and I greatly greatly appreciate it…and every bit of it made it easier for us. Thank you.

Things are going really well at home….I have a tough time with it the first few days…I just felt so overwhelmed. I’ve never been around a newborn for more than 2+ hours, so this is all unchartered territory for me. Jennifer really helped me through it all with talking about my worries and everything, and I soon became much, much better. Was it post-partem depression for men or something? Who knows.

Jennifer and I are doing a great job of taking care of Dexter. We have a pretty good schedule down…that’s all changing though now that I’m back at work. We feed him every 3 hours…and usually I took the 9p-3a shift, while Jennifer slept, and then she’d take 3a-9a…it worked pretty good. Dexter just likes to be held a lot before you can put him down in his bassinet…but that’s fine with us, we love holding the little guy.

Bruce Willis Movies -

He makes a cameo in ”The Expendables”, but also, for whatever reason, in a 48 hour span at home, Jennifer and I caught about 5 different Bruce Willis movies. It’s ridiculous…he’s all over the movie channels. Bruce Willis is AWESOME…but I’ve come to realize that movies he does where he has hair are usually much better than bald Bruce Willis movies.

Top 10 Bruce Willis Movies

10. Last Boy Scout - The only good movie Damon Wayans ever did…wait, I’m forgetting about Mo’ Money!

9. Pulp Fiction - A good movie…but overrated.

8. Armageddon - I’m a sucker for the Aerosmith song…and I’ll say it, if an asteroid is about to destroy Earth, there’s no better team than John McClane, Both dudes from Fargo, and Gigli (sorry Ben Affleck)

7. Die Hard 3 - It’s my least favorite of the Die Hards…but it’s still AWESOME

6. Die Hard 4 - They were able to make John McClane computer savvy…plus, Justin Long is hilarious in this.

5. Sixth Sense - Only if you see it once…this is a movie that never needs to be seen twice.

4. Hart’s War - Pretty much a remake of “The Great Escape”…a tremendously underrated movie.

3. Die Hard  - I remember my mom & dad not wanting to let me see this as a kid. I still vividly remember the scene showing his bare, bloody feet after running through the glass-filled floor.

2. Hudson Hawk - This movie is over-the-top ridiculousness, but it is AWESOME. Everything about this movie is cheesy…and it stars Sandra Bernhardt (Which is never a good thing), yet somehow, this movie works. Andie MacDowell channeled a dolphin half-way through the movie or something like that. It was a bizarre movie…and an instant classic.

1. Die Hard 2 - Getting jammed in the eye with an icicle is one of the coolest death scenes ever. This movie had it all.

Worst Bruce Willis Movies -

5. Oceans 12 - He was in it for 5 minutes…unfortunately, he was credited for it…sorry Bruce.

4. Bandits - Snnnooooorrrree.

3. The Whole 9/10 Yards - Matthew Perry = Box office poison.

2. Unbreakable - It just didn’t make sense, and it wasn’t good.

1. Cop Out - Just rented it…made it through 5 minutes…turned it off. Terrible.

I Join the Rest of the World -

I had never seen “The Breakfast Club”. I now have. It is quite good. This is one of Jennifer’s favorite movies…but somehow, I had never seen it. I don’t know how that was possible (note: I’ve never seen 16 Candles all the way through either…or Pretty in Pink). This was one of the first times ever that Jennifer quoted more lines in a movie than I did. I’d put up a photo of Emilio Estevez in his blue Nike tanktop, but I think Jennifer would start drooling too much. Ridiculous Jennifer.

Clash of Titans -

I had heard a lot of bad things about this re-make…but I thought it was quite excellent actually. I missed the cheesy special effects from the original movie, but I thought the action of this one was tremendous, and it seemed to be much more faster paced than the original. Definitely worth a Redbox rental fo’ sho’!

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!

Update on Dexter, Jennifer, and Kurt!

August 20th, 2010 by Big Ken, Colleen and Producer Kurt

(Dexter and his “I (heart) ISF” shirt, courtesy of our State Fair Fanatic, Heather)

Things are going well here at home. Jennifer and I have been able to get some sleep…Dexter is so well-behaved. He doesn’t cry that much…just a sort of whine, which is more cute than anything else.

Usually, I will take the early night shift until 1:30/2…then Jennifer takes over and lets me sleep until 8…last night, I pulled an all-nighter. Jennifer got close to 8 hours of sleep. Woot woot! I figured a rested wife is just as important as a rested baby.

Oh, big news, his umbilical cord fell off this morning! We’re making sure the cats don’t try and bat it around (my friends Dan&Karen said that’s what happened when their son’s cord fell off…hilarious). Do we keep the cord? Your thoughts.

We just love the little dude so much. He watches a lot of movies with us (he’s seen “Stepbrothers” now 3 1/2 times…it’s on all the time)…and he watches more SportsCenter than I do.

Jennifer is recovering great as well. I’m so proud of her. She and Dexter are so good together…I think he behaves more for her than he does for me, ha ha.

By the way, just to clear up his name…we liked the name Dexter way before we got into the show “Dexter”, and it was actually a reason why we started to watch the show.

I will be back on Thursday morning! (How are Ken & Colleen doing? Do they miss me? Have they broken into uncontrollable tears of despair without me? I like to think that they do).

AWESOME is as AWESOME does! (and Dexter is AWESOME)

Introducing…Dexter Maddux!

August 11th, 2010 by Big Ken, Colleen and Producer Kurt

From Kurt…

Last night (08/10) around 11pm, Jennifer gave birth to the AWESOME Dexter Maddux. He came in at 9 lbs, 2 oz! He’s a chunker…and so adorably cute! 21 inches of AWESOMEness! Jennifer and Dexter are doing great!

Of course, Dexter is from our favorite show (and a great name before that too)….and Maddux is tribute to my favorite Cubs player ever, Greg Maddux. Woot woot!

My wife did so great last night…it was a long day of pushing…contractions….and then ultimately an emergency c-section. She was a warrior though, and I’m so incredibly proud of her…and could not love her anymore than I do right now.

Oh, and I love this littel Dexter fella as well! He’s so much fun….he doesn’t cry much (yet)…and a nurse came in to tell us he just took one of the biggest poops she’d ever seen. Definitely my boy!!

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!

The Blog Is Back! It’s Mark Wahlberg movies, and Back-To-School!

August 9th, 2010 by Big Ken, Colleen and Producer Kurt

From Kurt…

Sorry for the Break -

With all the storms and impending baby, I just hadn’t had time for my mind to rest…and to come up with ridiculous lists.

No Baby Yet -

Will keep you posted….nothing to report. 1 day ’til due date day. Jennifer…is…not…comfortable.

Thanks to the I-Cubs!

A big thank you to the Iowa Cubs for the birthday gift they sent over for MJ yesterday…a Ryne Sandberg shirt for me/dad…and then a replica of the Ryne Sandberg Hall of Fame bust…it’s AWESOME…and it will look tremendous in MJ’s room! Thanks I-Cubs!

How Crazy Were the Rivers Yesterday?

What is that…Walnut Creek? Holy cow…over there by 86th Street over by the “Caffrey’s Steakhouse” wasat p incredible. You can barely see the river 364 days of the year, but yesterday, that was a raging river. We went over to 63rd & Grand as well to take a look (just because it was near the old stomping grounds)…and if I was still living in Valley Junction, I would have been at stress level code red. The flood gates weren’t down on the street yet, but that river was just smashing against the bridge. Wow.

The Best Back-To-School Shopping List Item

With everyone doing their back to  school shopping, I thought back on what was on my list. Jennifer brought up the Trapper Keeper, which were great…mine had Garfield working in a laboratory on the cover. Then Jennifer reminded me of my favorite item on the list…”One of your dad’s old shirts”…to use as an art smock. I remember my dad “donating”…actually I think it was my mom “getting rid of” one of his older shirts, and would wear that during art class. Fantastic…a class of 24 kids all wearing their dad’s old clothes.

Mark Wahlberg Movies -

Marky Mark is one of Jennifer’s favorite actors, and congratulations to “The Other Guys” for being #1 at the movies this weekend (although I have heard mixed reviews). First, I will submit my list based on actual goodness of Mark Wahlberg’s movies…then Jennifer will have her Top 5 list of “Mark Wahlberg’s Hottest Movies”.

By, the way, some of Mark Wahlberg’s movies? Really really good…but then also there are a couple of the greatest movies ever.

Best Mark Wahlberg Movies -

8. Four Brothers - Didn’t really like it on DVD…but I like it more on TNT. Apparently, I like commercials.

7. Fear - He was just a creepy, scary dude…plus, featuring a young Reese Witherspoon, and the actor who played Grissom on CSI.

6. Invincible - This movie was just okay…really, how hard could it have been to make the Philadelphia Eagles? They suck, ha ha! This movie became better after the football tryout episode of “Always Sunny in Philadelphia”.

5. Shooter - This movie was much better than people gave it credit for. A falsely accused sniper who has to avenge his injustice? Count me in.

4. Rock Star - Simply because of the song “Stand up and Shhhhhhhhoooooouuuuuuuttttttt!” I love that the movie ends with him ditching 80s Hair Glam for grunge. It’s so true, we all did it.

3. Perfect Storm - A great movie…a fantastic movie…but I have one issue with the movie…how do we know if any of this is true? No one survived? They could have died during the first big wave…and none of that movie happened. Maybe they didn’t catch any fish at all? For something loosely based on a true story, all I can figure out is that the truth part was 1) they were on a boat (on a mutha-flippin boat), 2) there was a storm, 3) fish is stinky. All that being said, I love this movie.

2. Boogie Nights - A great movie. I remember all of us in the fraternity dressing up as porn stars to go watch the movie over at the old Silver Cinema by Merle Hay Mall.  I remember afterwards at the bar, people were asking us what we thought, and all we could talk about was 1) Rollergirl, 2) John C. Reilly and Mark Wahlberg singing Feel Feel Feel, Feel My Heat, and 3) of course, was the ending legit? You know what I mean.

1. The Departed - An AWESOME movie all the way around.

Worst Mark Wahlberg Movies

5. The Big Hit - Maybe if I did Ectasy all day, maybe I’d be able to figure out this manic-paced movie…but hey, it’s good to see Lou Diamond Phillips getting work.

4. We Own the Night - But I will not own this movie, ever.

3. Planet of the Apes - Terrible remake. Absolutely terrible.

2. Max Payne - I only saw the preview, and immediately knew this movie was a stinker.

1. The Happening - One of the worst movies of all time. All-time. What a terrible movie. Oh look out everybody…nature is upset…and will kill us with a stiff breeze.

Jennifer’s List of Hottest Mark Wahlberg Movies.

5. Four Brothers

4. The Departed

3. Boogie Nights - (I think Jennifer was swayed by the ending)

2. The Perfect Storm

1. Fear - He runs around with his shirt on all the time…seriously Jennifer.

Jennifer finished this list with the word “Yumm-O”…c’mon Jennifer, you’re going to be a mom…maybe today…but probably not today.

Book #20..in the Books -

Just finished Andy McDermott’s “Hunt for Atlantis”….that was book #20 this year. Seriously…20 books this year. That’s not normal. I’m just a fast reader, I guess. I liked “Hunt for Atlantis” very much, and will continue on with the series. It has a very good “7 Deadly Wonders/6 Sacred Stones” type feel to it. I say that, and then I contradict myself immediately by revealing that Book #21 will be “Legend” by David Lynn Goleman.

Splash -

Went to Splash on Saturday night for Jennifer and I’s “possibly last fancy dinner before we become a couple with a kid”. We thought our dinner last weekend was going to be it…but MJ has had other plans. This was only the second time I had eaten at Splash…and I don’t need to tell you this…Splash…it’s tasty. We went with the crabcakes…Jennifer went with the cajun scallops…and I went with the Creole Pasta (with mussels, crawfish, etc.)…and then we topped it with Creme Brulee. Heck yes! AWESOME…the whole thing. I’m not much of an actual “fish” eater…I like more shellfish than anything (yet I love fish sushi? I’m dumb)….that being said, the waiter brought out some little appetizer of Chilean Seabass. I think next time, I will get the Chilean Seabass…holy cow, that was good (Thanks to Jennifer for letting me have hers as well).

Zombieland -

DVR-ed this movie…and thought it was fantsatic. Woody Harrelson was hilarious, and I’m glad that another zombie movie was able to capture the “fun” aspect of zombie killing (ala Shaun of the Dead”).  SPOILER alert - but since the movie has been out for almost 2 years, it’s not really a spoiler - but the cameo by Bill Murray is hilarious. That was the highlight of the movie…finally, Bill Murray is funny again. About time!

New Feature - “Movies That Should Not Be Forgotten”

Teenagers have missed out on a fantastic generation of movies…and twice/three times a week, I will nominate a movie that “Should Never Be Forgotten”. They don’t have to be good movies, but movies that need to always be seen…and respected.

Today, I submit the movie…”Revenge of the Nerds”. If someone doesn’t know the power of Lambda Lambda Lambda…or only know “Ogre” from the Capital One commercials, then you must make that person watch this movie…twice.

One of My Favorites Returns (and it’s not that diva Brett Favre)

August 5th, 2010 by Big Ken, Colleen and Producer Kurt

From Kurt…

One of My Favorites Returned Last Night

His name…Criss Angel. I admit, I DVRed “Mindfreak” last night, but I am HUGE Criss Angel fan…so much so that in Vegas, I went to his store at the Luxor 4 times in 24 hours (they were closed twice, and the other time got cut short due to work). I saw him at “The City” down in Cancun when my buddies and I went…and he was just getting started with Mindfreak…I think I was the only person who knew who he was.

(The photo is blurry because it was taken so far away, but I snapped a few paparazzi shots of him making out with some blonde….turns out that he’s married…I saw a picture of his wife…that wasn’t his wife in Cancun).

One day, Criss Angel…I, too, will learn to levitate.

That leads me right into this list that everyone saw coming…

Favorite Magicians (wow)

10 . Lance Burton - He’s in Vegas…always.

9. David Blaine - At first he was cool, now he just tortures himself and that’s supposed to be magic? But on the plus side, at least Michael Jackson believes in you.

8. Merlin - Maybe he’s more of a wizard technically…whatever.

7. David Copperfield - The Niagra Falls trick was AWESOME…the Great Wall of China? Not so much. You were clearly in the bottom of the crate that they lifted over the wall.

6. Siegfried & Roy - I always wanted to see this show. Hey kids, don’t play with tigers.

5. Hmm…I miscounted…I only have 9…no #5. Ahh…maybe #5 disappeared…like magic?

4. Harry Houdini - He’d be making top dollar if he were alive today…and would be in Vegas.

3. Penn & Teller - Their show on Showtime is great as well.

2. The Amazing Jonathon - The funniest comedian/magician of all-time

1. Criss Angel - Everything he does reeks of poserish-ness…but I am a HUGE fan.

Kick Ass

Jennifer called it “warped and weird”…and I sort of liked it. It’s a good comic book movie…it really dragged in some parts though. Hit Girl is definitely the best part of this movie…the worst part of the movie? Nicolas Cage’s mustache. I give it a B-…Jennifer would give it a C-.

Heartland Milk

Jennifer and I don’t do the organic thing…but Jennifer loves the Heartland organic chocolate milk. Loves it. For some reason, HyVee doesn’t always get a huge shipment of it or something because they are out of stock a lot…they only get it on a certain day of a week…we went on that day…it’s Saturday or Sunday, I can’t remember…and there was already only one left. Jennifer guards this chocolate milk with much care…I have found it’s better not even to ask for a glass…I’ll just get turned down, ha ha!

Hey Brett Favre, Do the Right Thing

August 4th, 2010 by Big Ken, Colleen and Producer Kurt

From Kurt…

Brett Favre

Well, as of right now, Brett Favre is still reportedly going to re-re-retire…again. Do the right thing here Favre…do it. I am prepared to re-embrace you with open arms…however, I must say, I enjoyed despising you this past year. It gave me a glimpse into Bears and Vikings fans lives for all those years. It was very interesting, and upon review, he is a diva…a whiny diva…a diva who gets way too may attention. My Brett Favre Goggles blinded me to that for many years.  I’m still trying to figure out how the Bengals-Browns game I watched last year somehow still found a way to incorporate Brett Favre into a quarter of the game. Ridiculous.

Your time is up Favre…retire.

Officially One Week -

MJ’s due date is officially one week from today. That’s AWESOME. Jennifer would be more than happy though if MJ made a special appearance today. I’d be fine with that too…let’s meet the little dude or dudette!  I think we’ve settled on a few name choices…which I will not tell you until MJ arrives…and I love the name choices…so does Jennifer. We are more than a bit excited!

The Cubs

Hey, the lost 18-1 the other day…well done. The saddest part? They lost 17-1 the week before. Somehow, we’re getting even suckier this year. Ugh. But, hey, at least Favre is retiring (possibly…maybe).

Itunes Day -

Ryan Star - 11:59 - His new album came out yesterday…it’s very good. I really like “Breathe” of course…and the song “You and Me” is excellent as well.

Mumford & Sons - Little Lion Man - This is a folksy/alternative song…but it’s excellent. I really like it.

Ken & Colleen’s Facebook Page

Hey, if you’re not a fan yet of Ken & Colleen’s Facebook page, you should be…there’s a bunch of fun photos & videos up there…plus we pose a bunch of fun questions throughout the morning. Do it…do it…do it.
