My Resolutions…3/4 of Them I Will Not Keep

From Kurt…
Resolutions for 2010 -

Okay, here it goes…a list of my resolutions for 2010…I won’t be able to keep at least half of these, but I will try…I gave up smoking 4 years ago? 3 years ago? I can’t remember…but I’ve stuck to that…so it can be done.

1 - Swear Less - I make this one every year…I don’t think I get past 12:04  before the F-Bomb makes it’s way back into my normal vocabulary. Also, there’s no way it’ll get past the Orange Bowl….or bowling. Also, I’m a Cubs fan, so of course, the months of April-September are chock-full of swears. I’ll try to at least make it to tomorrow, but no promises.

2 - Stop Getting Frustrated By Little Things - I need to do this. Example….last night…I couldn’t find my Packers stocking cap…I didn’t need it last night, but it bothered me that I couldn’t find it…I wasted about 10 minutes searching, and re-searching all the places that it should have been. I never found it…and was increasingly frustrated…why? Just a hat, I will find it later. I need to do a better job of just letting things like this go. This is a resolution I will really try to do.

3 - Getting in Shape - Of course…boring. Everyone has this on the list. Eat better too? I guess.

4 - Stop Boring My Wife With Fantasy Football/Baseball Facts - She doesn’t care about fantasy football/baseball…she tolerates my diatribes on why Chris Johnson will be the #1 overall pick next year over Adrian Peterson (yes, I’m already preparing for next year)…and she won’t care at all about my10 fantasy baseball teams.  She might be interested if I draft Ryan Theriot. I will go on and on about fantasy sports…and I know my wife gets frustrated about it. I will instead direct my rants and ravings towards Bartine, Sully, Loney, and Big Ken. That’ll do.

5 - Buy a New House - This isn’t a resolution…this is a certainty.

6 - Try To Incorporate Another Vegetable Into My Life - I’m at lettuce…and carrots. I should try and do one more per year…maybe green beans? Blech. Definitely not broccoli. Is there a veggie that tastes good? Maybe like a steak?

7 - Learn How To Cook More - I want to learn how to cook more. I can prepare a good number of dishes, but I want to be better. I have a good teacher in Jennifer…and I must learn from her. Well, maybe I’ll learn from Giada too. I want to be able to prepare seafood better…and I want to continue on my trek of becoming a master griller.

Iowa State -

Good luck to the Cyclones tonight…thank you for the Clones for starting all of our New Years Eve parties 2 hours earlier. I appreciate the extra 2 hours of drinking.

New Years Eve Parties -

Have fun tonight, and be safe. Jennifer and I are going to our friend’s Jim&Molly’s house. It’ll be our 3rd year of doing this…it’s always fun…all of our friends are together drinking, eating, playing Rock Band, watching football, playing poker, and of course the all-important Fantasy Football Playoff Draft.

Why is it every New Years Eve, there’s some daredevil who wants to break some new record for biggest jump on a motorcyle? All of us get sucked in and watch…and then we place bets on whether he’ll successfully do it. Tonight, some guy is jumping Long Island Harbor in New York…there will be 4 bets on the table 1) He’ll make it fine….2) He’ll barely make it, with some suspense at the end….3) He’ll land it, but go crashing into a wall….4) He’ll land in the water and be eaten by sharks. I’m going to put my money on Option #4…it sounds very exciting.

King & I  -

Jennifer and her co-workers like going to the King & I over there on 22nd Street in West Des Moines (next to SmashBurger). She would always tell me how good it is, but I never got to go. Well, that changed yesterday…and she’s right, it’s delicious.

I’m a big fan of sushi, so I was very impressed with their selection of roles. I just went with a simple spicy crab roll, which was really good. I must go back and try the rest of their creations as well…the Hawkeye of course looked good, as did the Grays Lake.

Jennifer always goes with the pad thai and chicken…I went with the garlic chicken. Here’s what i love…normally, garlic chicken is all mixed in together with water chestnuts, mushrooms…all sorts of stuff that will ruin the dish…not at the King & I though…it’s just a big plate of garlic chicken with some rice. Perfect! I’m all in!

Not a Good Idea -

After eating a sushi roll with the spicy crab…I worked out later yesterday afternoon…I did 2.5 miles on the treadmill…and I burped sushi at least 7 times. Awful. Sushi burps are the worst.

A Song Lyric That Makes Me Barf -

It’s from Train’s new song “Hey, Soul Sister”. The song is so catchy…but there’s a lyric that just makes me want to throw up everytime I hear it. I’ve met the lead singer, Pat, so I think that has something to do with it…he’s an odd little guy…

The lyric is “I’m so obsessed,  my heart is bound to beat, right out my untrimmed chest”. Yuck. The thought of Pat Monahan’s untrimmed chest immediately causes me to vomit. Just a patch of black hair like a thicket? Barrrfffff.

A Video For No Reason -

A compilation of some of the many, many “Holy ________” by Robin from Batman…5 seconds in…”Holy missing relatives?” Hilarious.

A New Show -

My friend Captain Awesome (a.k.a. Bartine) sent me a text saying that I must watch this show called…”Trailer Park Boys”. It’s about some idiot Canadian guys living in a trailer park…I’ve only caught bits and pieces from YouTube…but I’m totally on board. Good find E.

My Next Two Days…

Here’s the schedule for today…

11ish - Get done with work

Noon - Eat lunch, watch Houston v. somebody…I don’t care, it’s football.

1:00 - CBS - Stanford v. Oklahoma - I settle in to the couch.

2:30 - ESPN - Navy v. Missouri - Excellent, now I have two channels to flip between…it will drive Jennifer insane…but my goal is to never have to see a commercial…or a huddle.

4:00 - Go to the gym…watch games while I’m on treadmill.

5:00 - Iowa State v. Minnesota - I begin drinking…this evening’s choice? Sam Adam’s Winter Lager…and Miller Lite…and whatever booze we still have in the house.

7:00 - Head to Jim & Molly’s - Continue watching games…drink myself silly.

Midnight - Kiss Jennifer.

12:01 - Call it a night.

New Years Day Gameplan -

One of my favorite days of the year…

8:00 - Wake up way too early…take a shower…take some Tylenol

8:45 - Shower #2 - to clean the cobwebs.

9:15 - Try to eat breakfast

9:45 - Shower #3 - to actually clean myself.

10:00 - ESPN - Northwestern v. Auburn - Watch Gene Chizek get embarassed. Perfect.

11:30 - Go to Little Caesars…get some pizza and some Crazy Bread.

Noon  - CBS - West Virginia v. Florida State - My hatred of Bobby Bowden will come to an end today, he’s getting fired.

Noon - ABC - Penn State v. LSU - One of the best games of the day

3:30 - Rose Bowl on ABC - Ohio State v. Oregon - Root for the Buckeyes for the first time ever…the Big 10 can NOT be embarassed again this year. Changed my mind…I hate Ohio State too much…and I like the Ducks. Go Ducks.

7:30 - Fox - Sugar Bowl - Cincinatti v. Florida - I really think Cincy pulls out the victory here. The biggest question is…will we in Des Moines get to see it on Fox tomorrow night?

11:00 - Shut it down for the night.

An Open Note to Sinclair Broadcasting -

If you do pull our Fox programming…I hope bad things happen to the owners of Sinclair Broadcasting. Nothing dangerous or anything like that…but I hope, that every day, every morning, on their way in to work, I hope the GM’s car gets a flat tire. How annoying would that be? Every morning a flat tire? AWESOME. Or…I hope the Starbucks that they visit every morning closes down and becomes a health food store…bye bye caffeine, hello wheatgrass. Hee hee!

Ending 2009 on a Positive Note -

Have an AWESOME New Years Eve…thank you for reading my ramblings over the past year! Hopefully 2010 will be even bigger and better! Be safe tonight, and have a lot of fun!

AWESOME is as AWESOME does!

I didn’t go to work yesterday so I’ll comment today. I tend to not go to work on Wednesday’s because it is Jake’s day off, and I have a TON of PTO. I decided I’m leaving at 10:00 today also.

I can’t wait to see paranormal activity, thanks for the review.

I got the cops called on me yesterday… We hosted a Nebraska party… There was so much cheering that my neighbor called the cops. Looser. How about knock on my door and say ‘Hey I just moved in next door, and I work at 5 AM, could you keep it down please?” But no, he called the cops. Every time I hear his TV I’m going to call the cops now. I’m going to train my dog to pee on your doormat.

    New year’s resolutions…
    1. Work more Wednesdays
    2. Keep working out, but eat a little healthier (Kurt, try those V8 Fruit Juice blends, I heard they are actually pretty good) I enjoy veggies but I had to force myself to like them.
    3. No grades below an A. I’ve done in for 2 years in a row, I can continue.
    4. Travel to at least 5 states and 1 country. (not work related travel)
    5. Maybe finally start planning a wedding. I’ve been engaged since February, we have no plans… Is that bad? I’d rather just go to the courthouse and sign the paper, but Jake wants something big and fancy, he will more than likely get his way. 99.9% of the time he does.

I agree with Sinclair comments. That would suck so bad it would be AWESOME!

Lady GaGa. I broke down and bought Jake new tickets (see he gets what he wants…I am the best Fiancé, I am truly convinced of this) Last time we spend $350, now I have spent $860 on 2 tickets. That is dumb in my opinion but he is happy now.

Happy new year to you and everyone else. I love how commenting and reading this blog breaks up my day. Thanks to Star for keeping me going during the day and for being my morning Coffee.

  2. Big Ken, Colleen and Producer Kurt Says:

    Holla Nathan!

A happy New Years to you and Jake!

Well done on the Lady Gaga tickets…close to $1000 on tickets…well played…plus, Chicago is such a cheap city, ha!

Way to make friends with your neighbors. Glad you Husker fans had something to cheer about last night. How did you lose to Iowa State? That still completely amazes me. Good luck training the dog, that would be AWESOME…just every afternoon, “Why does my mat reek”? But if you’re asking that question, you have to be asking yourself, “Why am I obsessed wtih smelling my doormat?”

Hmm…I keep seeing those V8 Juice Blends…that could be a good start. I will try those…I just can’t embrace vegetables, I’ve never liked them.

No grades below an A? Holy studying Batman…when I was growing up, it was nothing less than a B at my house…and I thought that was tough enough. Good for you.

Traveling…I should have put something like that on my list. How about this…I resolve to see the Royals and Twins new stadiums this year for a game. That’ll work.

Have a great new years, and thank you for being an AWESOME blog commentator!
    Kurt

  3. Michele Says:

A Happy and Safe New Year to you, Kurt, and to all the AWESOME Blog readers out there. My husband and my son are both sick so we plan on staying in this year and probably sleep the new year in, sad and boring I know but sometimes it must be done. To all, hug often and say “I Love you” way too much! Peace to all!

  4. Star fan Says:

Just wanted to let you know about another new show called The League on FX. It’s based on a group of guys who have a fantasy football league. I’ve only seen it a few times, but seems right up the alley of any guy in one of those things :) I’m more like your wife when it comes to fantasy leagues of anything.
Oh yes, I think it’s on Thursday nights at 10:30, or somewhere thereabouts.
    Have a Happy New Year!

  5. Karess Says:

I will staying home and working at 5am on New Years Day Kurt! That is way too early!! I would relish sleeping in until 8am! Shall I call and wake you up?
