Fun While It Lasted, Scariest Cartoon Characters…and What Happened??!!

From Kurt..

Umm…What Happened?

Sammy Sosa is one of my all-time favorite baseball players…but what happened? When did he go Michael Jackson? Is he still grieving MJ’s loss?? Seriously…what happened? The picture on the left is from 2-3 seasons ago…the pic on the right is him at a benefit from this past weekend.

Thank You’s and Shout-Outs -

Thank you everyone for commenting…I really enjoyed the conversation that was developing on Friday about the Rock-a-Fire Explosion Band at Showbiz. No one needs to be embarrassed of being scared by the keyboard-playing gorilla. All of those animatronic band members were a bit creepy.

Scariest cartoon characters-

1 . Gargamel - From the Smurfs…he appears rather child-molesterish don’t you think?

2. Mumm-Ra - From Thundercats…he’s a mummified corpse…who could fly, cast spells, never die…knew everything. How did the Thundercats ever defeat him/her/it? Oh, thanks to Snarf!

3 - Skeletor - From He-Man - A living skeleton with superhuman strength, that can’t be good.

4 - Maleficent - From Sleeping Beauty - I remember this witch freaking me out as a kid. That’s embarrassing, I know. But, c’mon, she turned into a dragon! Oh, and why she is an evil/bitter woman?…she didn’t get invited to Sleeping Beauty’s birthday/christening party? Why must you women harbor so much? ha ha!

5 - Jafar - From Aladdin - He’s a bad, bad man.

Fun While It Lasted -

It was just a bad weekend for my sports teams in general…but what a bummer about Iowa’s loss on Saturday. It goes to show how imporant Ricky Stanzi is to our ballclub. What are ya’ goin’ to do though? Injuries happen…hopefully we can regroup and roll into Ohio State and give them a good fight, and maybe/hopefully walk out with a victory. It’ll be tough…but this team has thrived on being the underdog. Let’s prove the nation wrong again.

I will give the fans at Kinnick credit though…nearly 80% of the fans remained well after the final gun ended to salute our once unbeaten Hawkeyes. It was a heck of a run…one that will forever be remembered. I wish it would have kept going…but let’s just re-focus on the games ahead, and punch our ticket to Pasadena.

James Vandenberg is our guy now…everytime I type that I feel compelled to type James VanderBeek, and then I get images that our new QB is the QB from the movie “Varsity Blues”. Hopefully, Vandenberg won’t throw an interception…then run over to Ferentz and say “I don’t want your life.” That would not be good.

Chins up Hawkeye fans…it’s not even anywhere near being over.

Teams That I Can Not Stand -

Because all of my teams lost this weekend (Embarassing by the Packers…they’re pathetic sometimes)…I thought I’d help vent my frustration by listing my least favorite teams…so here is…

The Top 10 Teams That I Can Not Stand…and Root Against Them Every Chance I Get…

1 - St. Louis Cardinals - The worst team ever.

2 - Notre Dame Fighting Irish - I take great joythat they get to stink on a national stage every Saturday.

3 -  New York Knicks - Growing up as a Bulls fan, I despised the Knicks in the 90s. John Starks…I still want to fight him.

4 - Chicago Bears - I have more anger towards the Vikings right now due to “you-know-who”…but overall, I hate the Bears more.

5 - Minnesota Vikings - See #4

6 - Michigan Wolverines/Ohio State - They’re the same, they both suck…and I wish bad things upon both of them.

7 - Dallas Cowboys - America’s Team? Not even close.

8 - New York Yankees - Boooooooo!

9 - Detroit Red Wings - Chris Chelios leaving the Blackhawks for the Wangs was one of the worst days in hockey history.

10 - Houston Astros - Does this team even have fans?

Drunk Ewoks -

So remember on Halloween, when I was trying to figure out why the Today Show was in Star Wars’ costumes? I thought it was ridiculous…but as luck would have it…the Ewoks were drunk…watch the highlights here. Absolutely hilarious…

Great Food Sunday -

So, yesterday, as I’m watching the Packers continue to suck…Jennifer cheered me up with some fantastic food items…

For an appetizer….Peanut Butter and Jelly Hot Wings - Yes, you read correctly…they are hot wings covered in a PB&J glaze. It’s a wacky array of flavors, but it works perfectly on your pallette. Oh, that’s right, I used the word pallette…I don’t really know how to spell it, but I’ll use it.

For dinner…Hot Italian Sausage Meatball Subs - You should have seen these meatballs Jennifer created…they were Graziano Hot Italian Sausage with a huge chunk of mozzarella cheese in the middle…broiled to perfection, and then served on a toasted hoagie bun with more mozzarella cheese and a delicious sauce. You know it’s good when I’m getting stuffed after just one sandwich.

Speaking of Eating -

I’m done trying to diet…I weighed 205 last week…I thought I should try to diet a little (just by cutting back on snacks and portion size…and hitting the gym a little more)….however, I now have a tremendous new respect for those that go on diets. After 3 days, I was starving…and cranky…and now I’ve quit. I’ll just hit the gym a little bit more to try and cancel it out. For those of you that have done a diet for longer than 72 hours…how did you do it? I am more than impressed.

Oddest Thing I Heard This Weekend -

I am going to protect the innocent on this one…but we were at a birthday party on Friday night…and the birthday girl (after a couple/many) drinks informed us that her house has become victimized by an infestation of roaches. That’s not the weird part…her little daughter (about 4 years old) has asked what they are…in an effort to ensure that her kids in daycare don’t make fun of her, the mom let her know that they call the roaches “mad scientists”. Interesting. Roaches are “Mad Scientists”….”Mad Scientists” are roaches.

NOTE: I will get in trouble for writing this from someone, ha ha. NOTE: Don’t worry Colleen, it’s not you, you don’t have a daughter.

Xmas Idea -

My friend Corey had some sweet shoes on Saturday at the Hawks game…he had black&gold Converse shoes on, with “Hawkeyes” on the back. At Converse.com, you can customize your own shoe. Pretty sweet. I played around with it a little yesterday, and came up with some very AWESOME looking Cubs shoes. Could be a great gift for any sports fan…or shoe fan for that matter. They’re like $62…more if you want the high-tops Converse.

 AWESOME is as AWESOME does!

  1. Nathan Ritz Says:

First off I would like to express my sympathy for Iowa’s, Packer’s and your fantasy foot ball team’s losses. Jake wasn’t too happy about the Packers but Nebraska won so it was all good in our household. I got in trouble during the Nebraska game. Jake’s family was over and a couple of our friends, me and one other person that was there don’t really understand football so we started creating our own theoretical game. We thought they should have to jump over the yellow lines, half the players had to stop running at the black line, and every now and then a whistle would blow and your goal side switches to the other end of the field. The real football fans (Jake) didn’t like our modifications. I kept getting the glare of death.

The Rock-a-fire conversation was great. I also love the sneezing panda video. I laugh my butt off each time I see it.

I don’t diet I just try to eat right. I loosely follow the Body for Life meal plan where every few hours I eat a small meal or a snack. Like Breakfast I will have a natural PB sandwich on whole wheat with skim milk, then a few hours later I’ll have low-fat cottage cheese and sugar-free applesauce, etc. You get the idea. Smaller good for you meals of things I like. I think the thing that most people do wrong is they go to the gym, and then overeat after. Or overeat then justify it by saying “but it’s OK because I’m going to the gym tonight.”

Jake did the custom shoes thing last year but he did it with Nike Shox. I wish they were just $62m I think he paid at least double that. But instead of ‘Nebraska’ on the back he put one of our names on the back of each shoe.

We went out to eat Friday night. I can never make up my mind so Jake usually makes this decision and we hit the same three places. So I finally made a decision and took him to Irina’s (Over by the Buc’s Arena, where Razzmatazz was). This place is AWESOME! I had totally forgotten about it. I would highly recommend this place. I like the stuffed chicken breast (stuffed with ricotta, bacon and spinach) with garlic mashed potatoes; they also have good Onion Rings. The inside is decorated very nice, fun/relaxed environment, wonderful staff, and good food.

    Lastly can I just say… Ugh… Monday.
